When we wax lyrical about natural fibres, it’s because they are simply more comfortable and luxuriously soft than synthetic. But there’s more to it than that. They might just be the key to our wellbeing as well.
Natural fibres are breathable. Of course that means you don’t get sweaty when you’re asleep. And you don’t stay damp for the rest of the night. In fact, The National Sleep foundation recommends ‘being strategic about what your sleep attire is made of’ as it ‘can help regulate your body temperature during the night, which, in turn, can promote better slumber.’
Many natural fibres are antibacterial which means they will prevent skin irritations. And because they are hypoallergenic they are gentle on sensitive skins.
Natural fibres are environmentally friendly too. They require a fraction of the energy synthetics need in manufacture and they biodegrade when the time comes for them to go to that great wardrobe in the sky. So we get to feel good about the clothes we’re wearing.
We want sleepwear that is beautiful to look at, beautiful to wear. It’s at the heart of Blue Marmalade. That’s why we work with innovative new fabrics, Modal, Lyocell as well as silk and cotton silk. They all have one thing in common. They’re all natural.
Is gorgeous sleepwear a luxury? If it’s the key to good sleep then maybe we should consider it the most basic essential. The Elizabethan dramatist, Thomas Dekker is famously quoted saying ‘‘Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together’.
It seems obvious to us now in 2017 that nature knows best. We’re all aware that processed foods aren’t as good for us as fresh. A walk outdoors is better for our mental health than staring at a screen. But of all the healthy choices we might make, choosing natural fibres must be the easiest. This is a good habit that is easy and deliciously comfortable to stick to.
